Andrew Wong is a young and dynamic Senior Associate at Fortis Law. Andrew’s core practice areas and legal interests encompass the broad spectrum of Private Client work, including Criminal Law, Family & Matrimonial Law, Elder Law (i.e. Deputyship and Lasting Powers of Attorney), Estate Planning (i.e. Wills & Trusts), Probate & Administration and Real Estate & Conveyancing.
Empathetic and understanding, Andrew is well-suited to handle diverse areas of personal law, which often require Andrew to offer clients a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on. From premium real estate transactions to sensitive family disputes to the stress of facing criminal charges, Andrew is known for his genuine care for his clients and for his unwavering efforts to provide clients high standards of personalised service.
While Andrew considers himself a collaborative lawyer and robust negotiator who prefers mediation and alternative dispute resolution, he is equally skilled in legal analysis and is able to formulate cogent and well-researched legal arguments in the event that matters are contested in Court. As the harbinger of more cases to come, Andrew had his first seminal reported case in [2021] 5 SLR 0789 Tan Song Cheng v Public Prosecutor and another appeal, where the High Court established a new sentencing framework for income tax evasion offences for the first time.
Andrew has been appointed to the Law Society’s Tax & Trusts Practice Committee and Conveyancing Practice Committee for the year 2023.
Andrew also serves as a Legal Advisor to FortisWills, a premium Estate Planning company affiliated to Fortis Law. For the last few years running, Andrew has been consistently listed amongst the Top 10 most visited Certificate Issuer (Lawyers) for Lasting Powers of Attorney in Singapore. Andrew also regularly gives free talks and webinars to members of the public and voluntary welfare organisations to educate individuals on the importance of Estate Planning.
Prior to joining Fortis Law Corporation, Andrew graduated from Singapore Management University with a Bachelor of Laws (Magna Cum Laude). Andrew was placed on the Dean’s List twice in Law School and previously served as the President of the SMU Law Society.
